Brother Jerry Abell is the new MTD Vice President following action taken during the MTD Executive Board meeting in San Antonio on March 9.

Abell has been a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 25, Marine Division, since 1972. He followed in his father’s footsteps by beginning in the engine room as an oiler. By 1975, he had climbed the ladder to become an engineer and has worked in every state along the Eastern seaboard.

Following years as a shop steward on numerous projects, Abell became a Lead Dredgeman in 1983. He was elected to his local’s executive board in 1986.Twelve years later, he was appointed Business Agent for Local 25’s Tampa hall. In 1999, he was elected the local’s Vice President.

In 2016, Abell was elected the President/Business Manager of Local 25, which is headquartered in New Jersey.

Abell said he and his wife of 34 years, Tami, “are the proud parents of two daughters and even prouder grandparents of two grandsons.”
