The MTD, its affiliates and its Port Maritime Councils join the rest of America in saluting the hundreds of thousands of brave men and women who serve in the nation’s armed forces and the millions who have retired from duty.
These brave citizens help ensure our safety and liberty. They represent the very best of American society.
Whether it was during World War II, Korea, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf, Iraq and Afghanistan or during periods of relative peace, our veterans put their lives on the line.
The same is true today. At a time when the United States is confronting a host of threats, including a worldwide network of terrorists and a widespread proliferation of nuclear capabilities, today’s troops help to make the nation safe. Some of them are our union brothers and sisters, our sons and daughters, our fathers and mothers. In actions and deeds, U.S. maritime workers salute their efforts and promise to support them in every way possible.
From building, then crewing, to loading and sailing the vessels, we will be there. And, as proud members of the Union Veterans Council of the AFL-CIO, we support programs that ensure the quality of life for vets and their families. Of primary concern is the need for job training and quality jobs as well as proper health care.
To the veterans, we say an emphatic “Job Well Done!”
To the women and men in uniform, we continue our prayers for your safe return to your loved ones.
