From the Union Veterans Council:

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Union Veterans Council, AFL-CIO, hailed the achievement of reaching 218 signatures on a discharge petition for the Protect America’s Workforce Act (PAWA), H.R. 2550. This bipartisan milestone forces the U.S. House of Representatives to bring the crucial legislation to the floor for a full vote, restoring collective bargaining rights for hundreds of thousands of federal workers, including a significant number of military veterans.

The PAWA, championed by Representatives Jared Golden (D-ME) and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), is designed to reverse an executive order that stripped union rights from a substantial portion of the federal workforce. The Union Veterans Council emphasizes that this attack on labor rights disproportionately harms veterans who rely on these vital federal jobs and their union protections.

Protecting Those Who Served

Craig Romanovich, Executive Director of the Union Veterans Council, AFL-CIO, called on Congress to act swiftly and decisively to pass PAWA.

“Today’s victory in securing the 218th signature sends a clear, bipartisan message: we will not stand by while the rights of federal workers—many of whom are veterans—are stripped away,” said Romanovich. “The attack on collective bargaining for federal employees is an attack on the stability and quality of the critical services our nation depends on, including the care our veterans receive at VA facilities. It is time for Congress to honor the service of these workers by passing the Protect America’s Workforce Act immediately.”

We call on Congress to pass PAWA now to protect the economic security of our veteran workforce and ensure the continuous, high-quality delivery of critical public services.
