With representatives from more than a dozen international unions participating, the Chicago and Western Lakes Port Council recognized two of their own during its annual fundraising golf outing on June 19.

PMC President Bobby Howard presented John Manley with the James Sanfilippo Able Helmsman Award. A 33-year member of the Operative Plasterers’ and Cement Masons’ union, he had served as president of Local 5 before it merged into Local 502. Manley now is the business representative for the union’s Area 5.

Getting the Bernard J. Spatz Labor Man of the Year Award was Frank T. Libby. During his 42 years with Carpenters Local 10, Libby was its financial secretary-treasurer as well as assistant to the president for the Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters before retiring. (He was not able to attend due to a family obligation.)

PMC Secretary-Treasurer Chad Partridge called the annual gathering a “great success.” More than 100 people registered for the golf and dinner that followed. Among the unions who took part were the Bricklayers, Carpenters, Communications Workers, Electrical Workers, Insulators, Iron Workers, Laborers, Machinists, Operating Engineers, Plasterers’ and Masons’, Seafarers, SMART, and UA.

The awards are named in memory of former PMC presidents.
