More than 5,000 registered nurses and professional health care employees voted to become part of the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU), an affiliate of the Maritime Trades Department, AFL-CIO.
The nurses are members of the Florida Nurses Association (FNA)/Labor & Employment Relations Council. Among the facilities represented by FNA are Wuesthoff Medical Center, University of Florida – Shands, Florida State University and the State of Florida Professional Health Care Unit.
“This partnership between the OPEIU and FNA will make OPEIU an even more effective representative of the nursing profession and provide FNA with the ability to better serve its members through collective bargaining,” noted OPEIU President Michael Goodwin, an MTD Executive Board Member.
The addition of FNA brings the OPEIU nursing professionals to more than 11,000 members – including the Hawaii Nurses Association, OPEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania as well as registered nurses at St. Vincent’s Hospital (Little Rock, AR) and Mt. Clemens (MI) Hospital.
