The International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE) has signed on as the Maritime Trades Department’s most recent affiliate. The decision was announced at the MTD’s annual Executive Board meeting in Washington, D.C., held on April 25th.
IFPTE President Matt Biggs and Secretary-Treasurer Gay Henson were both present for the announcement, which was made by MTD Executive Secretary-Treasurer Mark Clements. Sister Henson was then named as the IFPTE’s representative on the Board, receiving a generous round of applause.
“The whole of the MTD now has your back,” said Clements.
Henson comes from IFPTE local 1937, representing professional workers at the Tennessee Valley Authority. She served as president of that local union from 2005-2022. She was elected Secretary-Treasurer of the international union in 2021.
The Maritime Trades Department welcomes IFPTE into the MTD family with full eagerness.
