IMO ‘Day Of the Seafarer’ Set for June 25th

blog-stock-new

Circle the date: June 25th.  That’s when civilian mariners and their friends will be celebrating the “Day of the Seafarer” around the world.

Along with the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the United Nations agency that deals with global maritime matters, the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) is asking all of its friends and affiliates to publicize the date through social media. This year’s theme, “Faces of the Sea,” spotlights the human face of shipping and the sacrifices mariners make to provide consumers with the vital supplies needed for the world economy to function.

The IMO is asking people to go to Facebook and “like” the event at the following links: https://www.facebook.com/seafarerDay or http://www.facebook.com/IMOHQ.

You can also follow events on twitter: @IMOHQ or @Seafarerday using the hash-tag #thankyouseafarer.

Additionally, there also will be videos on YouTube at the following address: www.youtube.com/seafarerday. Supporters are asked to provide video and photos promoting the world’s men and women who make their livelihood at sea.

Several MTD affiliates are members of the ITF, a London-based organization composed of more than 700 transportation unions from around the world.
