The MTD mourns the passing of former Masters Mates & Pilots President Robert Lowen, who passed away on November 7.

Lowen, 91, stood on the bridge of the MM&P from 1978 to 1993. A graduate of Kings Point, he served in the Navy during World War II. He joined the MM&P in 1952. He served as the union’s secretary-treasurer between 1971 and 1978.

Lowen was a delegate to several MTD conventions and a regular attendee of MTD executive board meetings.

This broad Jones Act waiver is helping foreign shipping companies while weakening U.S. mariners, shipyards, and the fleet our military depends on.
