The Maritime Trades Department, AFL-CIO mourns the passing of Brother Glenard “Glen” Middleton, Sr. He represented the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees union on MTD’s Executive Board from 2013 until his retirement last year.

Brother Glen formerly served as Executive Director of AFSCME Council 67, based out of the Baltimore, Maryland area. He was a prominent champion of working people in that region. In addition to being a familiar face at many MTD events, he was heavily involved with the Metropolitan Baltimore Council, AFL-CIO.

The Council’s president, Courtney L. Jenkins, issued the following statement:

“It is with a heavy heart that we inform you of the passing of one of our labor giants, Brother Glen Middleton, Sr.

Brother Glen was a leader amongst leaders and dedicated his life to fighting for public employees and union members in Baltimore and beyond. Serving in various leadership roles within AFSCME and the council, our brother’s impact and work will live on for generations. In many ways, he helped build the Baltimore labor movement, and we all stand in his legacy—a legacy we continue to honor, uplift, and protect.

Our hearts and prayers go out to Middleton and AFSCME family during this difficult time. Information on arrangements and expressions of condolences will be shared as they are made available.”
