MTD Mourns Passing of IUOE’s Giblin

blog-stock-new

The MTD mourns the passing of Vincent J. Giblin, retired General President of the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE), on October 15. He was 73 years old.

Brother Giblin represented the IUOE as an MTD Executive Board Member from 2005 to 2012. MTD President Michael Sacco recalled Giblin as “very devoted to his union and his membership. He was a friend and we will miss him.”

A New Jersey native, Giblin started his stationary engineer career as a member of IUOE Local 68. Seven years later, he was elected the local’s business manager, a position he held for 29 years.

He started climbing the ladder within his union, being elected an international vice president in 1989, then became the IUOE secretary-treasurer. In 2005, he was elected IUOE General President, holding that post until his 2012 retirement.
