Then-MTD President Frank Drozak greets now President-elect Joe Biden before he addressed the February 1987 MTD Executive Board meeting.

The MTD joins with the rest of the Labor Movement and the country in congratulating President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris.

“We know President-elect Biden is a very strong supporter of the Jones Act and the U.S.-flag fleet,” stated MTD President Michael Sacco. “President-elect Biden has stood with us and for us during his years as a Senator from Delaware and as the Vice President.

“Vice President-elect Harris also has demonstrated her total support for the U.S. merchant marine while representing California in the U.S. Senate,” added Sacco.

AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka declared, “Union voters delivered this election for Biden and Harris. Their message and commitment to create ‘the most significant pro-Labor, pro-worker administration’ resonated with our 12.5 million members and 56 affiliated unions who are hungry for a bigger voice in our economy and our politics.”

Before Biden and Harris take office on January 20, the MTD will work with its affiliates and others to offer direction for important governmental appointments who will deal directly with maritime issues.

Meanwhile, the MTD salutes the solid backing the industry received throughout the Trump administration, especially from Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, Maritime Administrator Mark Buzby and Presidential Assistant for Trade and Manufacturing Policy Peter Navarro.
