MTD Welcomes OPCMIA’s Sexton to Executive Board

GST-Sexton

Kevin Sexton, General President of the Operative Plasterers’ & Cement Masons’ International Association (OPCMIA), is the newest member of the MTD Executive Board.

Brother Sexton replaces Daniel Stepano, who retired as OPCMIA General President at the end of January. Stepano had served on the MTD Executive Board since 2016.

Sexton joined OPCMIA Local 518 in 1985 upon completing his service in the U.S. Army. After graduating his apprenticeship and becoming a journeyman, he was elected to the local’s executive board in 1993. In 1996, the local elected him its president. Eventually, he became the local’s business manager.

Then-General President John Dougherty appointed Sexton to be a Deputy International Representative in 2002. His work led him to serve as president for the Kansas City Building Trades Council. By 2011, he was elected treasurer of the Missouri State Building Trades. That same year, he was picked by then-General President Patrick Finley on serve on the OPCMIA Finance Committee. Four years later, he was hired as an International Representative.

Stepano appointed Sexton as a Vice President in 2016, then the union’s Secretary-Treasurer in 2018. He held that post until becoming the General President on February 1.

He and his wife, Angela, have seven children and nine grandchildren.
