The MTD mourns the passing of longtime MTD staffer Max Hall who passed away February 9 following a sustained battle with diabetes. He was 67.

Hall was the MTD communications director from 1992 to 2014. He served as editor of Maritime, the department’s monthly newsletter. During 2002-03, he oversaw the department’s transition of Maritime from print to online.

Following his graduation from Tufts University and the Boston College School of Law, Hall went to work in the communications department for the MTD-affiliated Seafarers Union. He was editor of that union’s United Worker and associate editor of the Seafarers LOG before coming to the MTD. He had a tremendous love of classical music and volunteered as an usher at the Kennedy Center in Washington.

His father, Paul Hall, was the president of both the MTD and the Seafarers Union from 1957 to 1980.

In lieu of flowers, his family asked that donations be made in Hall’s name to the American Diabetes Foundation.
