Recently nominated to head MarAd, RADM Mark Buzby (USN, ret) has spoken several times to the MTD Executive Board.

Retired Navy Rear Admiral Mark H. “Buzz” Buzby has been nominated by President Donald Trump to become the next U.S. Maritime Administrator. He must be confirmed by the Senate before he can begin working at the Department of Transportation.

While serving as the commander of the U.S. Military Sealift Command (MSC), Buzby addressed the MTD Executive Board four separate times, the latest being 2013.

“Admiral Buzby is an extremely knowledgeable ally who definitely understands the value of the American maritime industry along with the serious challenges we’re facing,” stated MTD President Michael Sacco upon hearing the news. “He realizes that the U.S. Merchant Marine and America’s shipbuilders are vital to national security. We worked well with him at MSC and look forward to his taking the helm at MarAd.”

Buzby started his 34-year career in the Navy after graduating from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY, in 1979. He served at sea with time as a vessel commander and ashore with the Navy staff and the Joint staff. He is the recipient of the Navy Distinguished Service Medal and the Bronze Star as well as other personal and unit awards.

He serves as the president and CEO of the National Defense Transportation Association and sits on the boards of several maritime industry-related corporations.
