Union members and their friends raised $40,000 for the March of Dimes during the Eighth Annual Shoot for a Cure sponsored by the Greater South Florida Maritime Trades Council.

The May 20 event at the OK Corral Gun Club in Okeechobee, FL, featured 90 participants from 10 different international unions (including MTD affiliates CWA, IBEW, IUOE, IUPAT, MEBA, OPEIU, SIU and UA), as well as representatives from several U.S.-flag shipping companies.

Representing the MTD are (from left) Toledo PMC Pres John Clemons, South Florida PMC VP Kris Hopkins and MTD Exec Sec-Treas Daniel Duncan.

“The rain broke off just in time for us to get the whole event in,” noted PMC Vice President Kris Hopkins. “This is the most interest we’ve had since covid. And, we helped a good cause.”

This is the 20th year for the union-supported Shoot for a Cure events. During that period, the outings across the country have raised more than $10 million for various charities. This year’s goal is to clear $1 million, according to Mark Gagliardi, the national event chairman.
