The Houston City Council unanimously appointed Dean Corgey, the secretary-treasurer of the West Gulf Ports Council, to the Port of Houston Authority Commission on January
Corgey, who serves as the Vice President Gulf Coast for the MTD-affiliated Seafarers International Union, became the first union official to serve on the seven-member commission.
“I understand that I serve at the pleasure of the mayor and council to represent the city of Houston and the port in an efficient and ethical manner, “Corgey told the city council upon being appointed. “I also intend to be a voice for labor and working families and I’m pleased to work in the best interest of the city, port and workers with diligence and integrity.”
In addition to duties with the West Gulf PMC and the SIU, Corgey is a vice president of the Texas AFL-CIO and a member of the Harris County AFL-CIO executive board.
