General President James A. Williams, Jr., will serve on the MTD Executive Board as the representative for the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT).
Brother Williams was unanimously elected to lead IUPAT in August 2021 upon the retirement of Kenneth Rigmaiden (who had represented the union on the MTD Executive Board).
Williams started in IUPAT’s Philadelphia District Council 21 in 1998 as a glazier. He was appointed as Assistant to the General President in 2002 and served as the Regional Organizing Coordinator to the union’s Eastern Region.
In 2011, he was named the union’s Organizing Director. He was elected General Vice President at Large in 2014, and re-elected in 2019.
“The MTD welcome Brother Williams to our Board,” noted MTD President Michael Sacco. “We have worked with him on several projects within the AFL-CIO and know he fights for his members and all workers.”
